Fall is coming soon! Here are a few reminders for preparing your lawns for winter.
Fall is here and the City of Orleans would like to remind residents not to dispose of leaves, acorns, walnuts, tree branches, bushes, or any garden waste in the streets, detention basins, creeks, ditches, or drainage ways. Depositing of any of these items can result in blocked storm inlets which cause local flooding and has a negative impact on water quality as the City’s stormwater flows to local waterways untreated. It is also a violation of City Code 135.03(2), which states it is unlawful to place or deposit landscape or yard waste of any kind including grass clippings, leaves, tree branches, brush or lake weeds on any street right-of-way.
The City of Orleans, Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary Sewer and Dickinson County Conservation spent time and money cleaning out yard clippings, garden waste, brush, tree limbs and other items from a creek area that runs to the lake. It is very disappointing to see someone has dumped their tomatoes and yard waste in this area again. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE PRAIRIE STRIPS, FARM GROUND AND DITCHES FOR YOUR YARD AND GARDEN WASTE! If you don’t own the property, you should not be dumping or blowing anything on it.
Please do not blow leaves into the lake. This is not permitted per DNR regulations.
Please use the Green Waste site located approximately 1/2 mile east of Orleans on 140th St. It is available for personal use only for all Orleans Residential water customers from spring until fall.
