New Address Numbering Requirement for Buildings
The City of Orleans has adopted a new ordinance [PDF, 321.52 KB] requiring all buildings to display their assigned address number.
What property owners need to know:
- Address numbers must be displayed on the principal building in a location clearly visible from the street. Numbers must be at least four inches high and in a color that contrasts with the background.
- If a garage or other structure blocks the view of the main building, the address number should be placed on the building closest to the road.
- For buildings that cannot be seen from the street—such as properties located off roads like 240th Avenue—the address number must be posted facing the street, such as on a signpost.
- When multiple homes share a driveway, a single post displaying all assigned numbers should be placed at the driveway entrance. Each individual building must also display its own address number in a visible location facing the street.
- Address signposts are available for purchase through the county.
Properly displayed address numbers are essential for emergency response, deliveries, and public safety. Property owners are encouraged to review their address signage and make any necessary updates.
